What it covers

The work itself

Anyone starting out in cabling, and tradespeople adding cabling to what they already do — electricians, security installers, air conditioning and data technicians.

The rules

What you may and may not do on customer cabling, and the standards the work is measured against. This is the part that keeps you registered.

Safe work

Working in ceilings and roof spaces, at heights and near mains — including the separation rules that exist for good reason.

Installing and terminating

Hauling cable, terminating to standard and leaving a job that passes inspection rather than one that merely works.

Testing and handover

Proving the installation with a tester and documenting it so the result stands up later.

The detail

What the skill set is
A nationally recognised set of units rather than a full qualification. It is the shortest honest route to being able to work on customer cabling lawfully. Four units: ICTTEN202, ICTWHS204, ICTTEN208 and ICTCBL247. They are the same four that make up our ACMA Open Registration course, delivered the same way — the online theory first, then three days on site at Myaree.
Funding and eligibility
Eligibility is worked out per student and takes about five minutes on the phone. Broadly it depends on where you live, your work situation and what you have studied before — but the criteria reach further than most people assume, so it is worth asking before you write it off. We will tell you either way. We check your eligibility with you before you enrol, and it takes a couple of minutes — residency, what you are doing for work, and what you have studied before all come into it. The rules are broader than most people expect, so it is worth asking rather than assuming.
Registration
Cabling work in Australia requires ACMA registration, which is issued by a registrar rather than by us. The skill set gives you the Statement of Attainment the registrar wants to see. Applying for the registration itself is a separate step you take with a registrar once you have it — we are not the registrar and cannot issue it for you.
Dates and how to enrol
We run this regularly at Myaree. It runs on the ACMA Open Registration schedule, because it is that course — every scheduled date is on that page.
Recognition of prior learning
If you have been doing the work for years, Recognition of Prior Learning and our Fast Track programs can cut down what you actually have to sit. Bring job records, photos, test results and a supervisor who will vouch for the work.
Fees
Fees are set by the Department of Training and Workforce Development, not by us. This skill set is 170 nominal hours at the Lower fees, local skills rate — $1.62 per nominal hour — so the full course fee is $275.40, or $81.60 if you hold a concession. You are charged for each unit as you start it. Employers often pay for a staff member, but that is between you and them — we invoice whoever is named on the enrolment.
