Open Registration
The ACMA - Open Registration Course has been developed to meet the training requirements to apply for an Open Cablers License with one of the five cabling registrars in Australia.
On successfull completion of this course, you will be awarded the units:
ICTTEN208 - Use electrical skills when working with telecommunications networks
ICTWHS204 - Work health and environmental policy and procedures
ICTCBL247 - Install, maintain and modify customer premises communication cabling: ACMA Open Rule
This course is delivered via online pre-course theory work plus three days face to face learning and assessment.

The ACMA - Open Registration Course has been developed to meet the training requirements to apply for an Open cabling license with one of the five cabling registrars.
This course will provide students with the foundation knowledge required to install, maintain and modify customer premises cabling. Please be aware, that to attain a cabling license with one of the cabling registrars, you are also required to demonstrate 360 hours of cabling experience.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units:
ICTTEN208 - Use electrical skills when working with telecommunications networks
ICTWHS204 - Work health and environmental policy and procedures
ICTCBL247 - Install, maintain and modify customer premises communication cabling: ACMA Open Rule
This course covers four units of competency, these being:
ICTTEN208 - Use electrical skills when working withfor telecommunications work
ICTWHS204 - Work health and environmental policy and procedures
ICTCBL247 - Install, maintain and modify customer premises communication cabling: ACMA Open Rule
The electrical skills training and assessments component of this course will cover the following:
- Connecting, testing and verifying DC and AC circuitry
- Evaluating analogue and digital signals
- Performing cable selection
The follow health, safety and environmental policy and procedures training and assessment component of this course will cover the following:
- Identifying WHS legislative requirements
- Identifying construction hazards and control measures
- Following workplace procedures for hazard identification and risk control
- Following safety requirements for working with optical fibre equipment
- Identifying and implementing WHS communication and reporting processes
- Following WHS incident response procedures
- Contributing to the management of WHS
- Contributing to the management of workplace environmental issues
- Identifying minor traffic management
- Recognising and responding appropriately to confined space
The ACMA Open Cabling Registration training and assessment component of this course will cover the following:
- Planning cabling work
- Managing remote power feeds
- Installing and modifying cable support, earthing and termination infrastructure
- Installing cables and earth wires
- Terminating and testing cables and earth wires
- Inspecting cable routes to ensure correct seperations
- Evaluating earthing needs for cable systems on customer premises
- Labelling earthing systems
- Creating or updating cable plans and records
- Monitoring work activities
There are no specified entry requirements for this course, however, if you have difficulty distinguishing between colours, you may be unable to successfully complete some tasks.

The ACMA - Open Registration Course is delivered through a blended model consisting of:
- On-line theory work, which is to be completed prior to the practical sessions
- Three days face-to-face training and assessment.
Most classes will be delivered from 8:00 - 4:00, however, check your booking to confirm your start and finish times as they may slightly vary.
The on-line theory is self paced and the time required to complete the modules will vary depending on your experience.
Through moving the theory components online (and halving our class sizes) this course has been reduced from five days face-to-face training to three. This should assist you with gauging the amount of time to set aside for the pre-course theory.
At Aspire Education and Training we recognise some students have vast amounts of knowledge and experience within various areas and they are purely seeking to formalise their skills. For students seeking this option we offer a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway. We endeavour to structure our RPL process in a way that will both minimise cost and time while always ensuring the integrity and validity of the assessment process.
The basic steps involved in a RPL pathway include:
- Request a RPL application form from admin@aeat.com.au
- Collect and forward supportive evidence along with your completed application form to admin@aeat.com.au
- Your application and evidence will be assessed by one of our qualified staff members
- One of our staff members will then contact you in regard to your application to seek further information if required.
- If gaps in evidence remain a personalised training and assessment plan will be developed to fill these gaps.
- Once the assessment has been completed to a satisfactory level you will be issued with your certificate.
- Although we would like to state a cost this can vary depending on evidence provided and training required to complete the process.
